The
Catholic Church in Malta has a long history in educational
involvement. For centuries the Church had been the sole promoter
of popular education on the island.
Today,
Church Schools cover the whole spectrum of education, from
Kindergarten to Sixth Form.
All
Church Schools are administered by Religious Congregations
- the De La Salle Brothers, Jesuits, Salesians of Don Bosco,
Society of the Sacred Heart, Sisters of St Joseph, Franciscan
Sisters, etc...
Each
school has its own ethos. However, the general characteristic
of Church Schools is the upbringing of children and adolescents
on human and gospel values that help to produce committed
Christians and worthy citizens of Malta.
The
Church in Malta, through its educational endeavour, has produced
prominent leaders who have served their country in various
civil and religious posts of authority and leadership.
The
Church Schools of Malta want to establish links with other
schools in Europe in order to share their vast historical
heritage with them. The Maltese culture is unique in the world.
It knows its origins to its forefathers who built the Neolithic
Temples and dug its world famous Hypogeum - burial place,
underground in sold rock, thousands of years ago. Malta's
Temples predate the Pyramids by 1500 years!
Pupils
at all levels in Church Schools in Malta look forward to close
collaboration and friendship with their counterparts in Europe
during the coming months and years.
